| In the 1970's early eighties the Compass 29 was the yacht for 'all sails to all people'. It combined the lessons learnt from its predecessor the Compass 28 with the need for more people volume. Can't be certain but I am fairly sure it was the most Australian produced yacht ever. It appealed to a generation who for the first time were able to see sailing as a pastime and not as something for the elite or the 'Old Sea Dog'. Its predictable sailing abilities allowed first-timers to enter the emerging recreational sailing market without having to spend hours learning to sail.
The factory mass-produced them thus ensuring good quality control and a good standard of internal fit-out.
Years later and they still are the most popular entry level yacht - you know what you are getting! They do have some inherent design/manufacturing faults but most have been dealt with and considering the lack of sophisticated computer programmes they were/are a bloody good yacht.
Osmosis is always an issue due to an oil crisis which meant cheaper resin had to be sourced. The stern chainplate is something to be aware of. Not bad for 25 years down the track! This particular example is clean and tidy. Needs a few items to be looked at but the owners are negotiable.
